3015 Kiele Avenue/ Gobindrum Watumull House

Oahu Residential_Non-Tax Exempt Address 3015 Kiele Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96815 TMK (1) 3-1-033:025 SHPD Historic Site Number 80-14-7393 Abstract The Gobidrum Watumull House, built in 1939, is a two-story house with a T-shaped plan. The mildly moderne style residence has masonry walls and a composition shingle, hipped roof with closed overhanging eaves and square, screened vents. The house fronts on the makai (ocean) side of Kiele Avenue, and its centered, hip gablet roofed, garage wing is flanked on either side by a 6' high masonry wall which define small, intimate courtyards on either side of the garage. The Gobidrum Watumull House is architecturally significant as a good example of a late 1930s house in Hawaii deisgned in a modern style. It reflects the design ideas of the Honolulu architectural firm Dahl & Conrad and is typical of its period in its design, use of materials, workmanship and methods of construction. 3014 Kiele Avenue / William & Edna Montgomery Residence

Oahu Residential_Non-Tax Exempt Address 3014 Kiele Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96815 TMK (1) 3-1-033:034 SHPD Historic Site Number 80-14-9108 Abstract Built in 1926, this single-story cottage has a pavilion plan with inset lanai and features: stuccoed walls, a hipped roof with overhanging eaves and exposed rafter tails, and Tuscan columns on the front corners of the lanai. The William and Edna Montgomery Residence is an example of a Lewers & Cooke cottage built in Hawaii during the 1920s. Alterations that converted the garage to a studio apartment reflect a historic association with the influx of wartime workers to Hawaii and the ensuing housing shortage during the 1940s. Hocking Beach House is significant for its association with the development of beach front housing in Hawaii. The main features of this single-story structure include the entry patio, the back lanai, and its H-shaped floor plan. The Brown Residence is significant as it was once a part of a larger property (Lot 12, Block 13) that was associated with the College Hills Tract. This area was a key feature in the residential community development in Manoa Valley. In addition, it is significant for its distinctive architectural characteristics and represents the work of master architects Emory and Webb. Address 52 Robinson Lane, Honolulu HI 96816 TMK (1) 1-8-003:002 SHPD Historic Site Number 80-14-9790 Abstract The Clinton Briggs Ripley Homestead in lower Nu'uanu has four houses designed in different yet compatible styles, which share a large, sloping yard shaded by mature trees and are connected by concrete stepping stones.  The family compound is significant for its architecture and for its association with Clinton Briggs Ripley, a notable architect in Hawaii who designed all the houses. Because Ripley was one of the earliest architects in Hawaii, there is little remaining of his work, making this compound a very rare and significant example of his work. Ripley built and resided in House #52, which he designed in 1895 in the Italianate style.  He then designed and built the other three homes for his daughters between 1919-1921. Two homes, #54 & #56, are designed in the Craftsman Bungalow style, and the third #58, and most elaborate, in the Neoclassical style. A carriage house/maid's quarters was constructed to the north west of House #58. Although each house is built in a style that was popular in America at its time, the use of lanais, wide overhangs and large windows show a consciousness of Hawaii's climate.
