Abstract
The Otto and Laura Bierbach Residence, which was built in 1912, sits on a gently sloping lot and is a two-story structure on a post and pier foundation with a battered, raised, concrete perimeter. The structure has stucco on lathe walls and a hipped roof, with closed overhanging eaves with bracketing. The structure is three bays wide with a centered, single story portico. The structure also features a single story, outset lanai on the makai side. The Otto and Laura Bierbach Residence is significant as a good example of an early twentieth century residence built in the Queen Anne style with features adapted to Hawaii’s climate. The residence is also significant for its associations with the development of Manoa valley, and more specifically the College Hills Tract.
