Abstract
Approved for Criterion C (Architecture and Engineering).  The Dearborn Chemical Company Warehouse is significant as a good example of a concrete warehouse constructed in Hawaii during the 1920s.  When the building was completed in 1928 it was the most substantial building in the area, and one of only a handful of non-residential buildings.  With the increased redevelopment of Kakaako from the 1990s onward, more of the light industrial buildings are giving way to large scale residential projects.  The Dearborn building is now a rare surviving example of industrial masonry building from the pre-World War II period to still exist in the area.
