A celebration of food, culture and historic places associated with Kauai’s Japanese heritage will take place at Eating House 1849 in Kōloa on Saturday, September 22.

The event commemorates the 30th anniversary of Chef Roy Yamaguchi’s restaurants, as well as the 150th “Gannenmono” celebration of the first Japanese arrival in Hawai‘i. Clinton Nuyda, executive chef at Eating House 1849, is planning a festival that highlights Japanese history and culture in Hawai‘i.

Historic Hawai‘i Foundation will participate in the event with stories of some of the sites associated  with this heritage. Other family-friendly activities include taiko drumming, live music, moichi pounding, plantation-style comfort dishes and innovative Japanese-style street-food.
