Address 3016 Oahu Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96822 TMK (1) 2-9-031:001 SHPD Historic Site Number 80-14-9752 National Register of Historic Places #98001288 Abstract The Salvation Army Waioli Tea Room building, which was constructed in 1921, is a one-story bungalow-type structure with a modern, low ceiling entry port leading to the main entrance. A wide lanai fronts the main rooms of the building which are entered through pocket style French doors along its long wall. The building is set on the slopes of Manoa Valley in a garden with thick foliage, making it almost hidden from view in some areas. The Salvation Army Waioli Tea Room is significant for its association with the Salvation Army and it contributions to the social history of Hawaii and as a fine example of the Bungalow style in Manoa and as the work of the architectural firm of Emory and Webb. Fort Ruger Market

Address 3585 Alohea Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96816 TMK (1) 3-1-010:159 SHPD Historic Site Number 80-14-9095 Abstract The Fort Ruger Market sits on a gently sloping lot at the southwest corner of Alohea Avenue and Edna Street, a residential neighborhood. The structure is a 34' X 62', single story, flat roofed, poured in-place concrete store building which faces north and is characterized by a red corrugated metal, shed roof awning which runs the length of the facade. The structure, which was constructed in 1936, also features a simple low parapet along the roof. The Fort Ruger Market is significant for its associations with the history of small neighborhood retail grocery operations in Hawaii during the early twentieth century, and for its associations with urban development in Honolulu prior to the enactment of comprehensive zoning ordinances. It is also significant as an example of a typical, vernacular style, masonry commercial structure built in Honolulu during the 1930s and 40s. La Pietra

Address 2933 Poni Moi Road, Honolulu, HI 96815 TMK (1) 3-1-029:038 SHPD Historic Site Number 80-14-9910 Abstract La Pietra, which was constructed in 1921, is an extensive two-story "Italian Villa" overlooking Kapiolani Park in Honolulu. Its two stories are arranged in a hollow square containing a central rectangular patio. The central patio is lined on all four sides with arcades supported by cut sandstone Doric columns. La Pietra is significant as a representation of the kind of lifestyle enjoyed by the very wealthy in Hawaii at that time as well as a fine example of Mediterranean architecture. La Pietra has been called one of the most perfect examples of an Italian villa anywhere in the United States. War Memorial Natatorium

Address Near 2815 Kalakaua Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96815 TMK (1) 3-1-031:003 SHPD Historic Site Number 80-14-9701 National Register of Historic Places #80001283 Abstract The War Memorial Natatorium contains a swimming complex that is situated along the oceanfront in Kapiolani Park and is surrounded by expansive lawns, coconut and banyan trees, and other vegetation. The property contains a 100-meter saltwater swimming pool, a set of concrete bleachers that rises thirteen levels high, a main entryway that includes an elaborate sculpture and triumphal arch entablature supported by Ionic pilasters and flanked by two lesser round arches, a set of locker rooms, and a volleyball and basketball court. The memorial is dedicated to the those from Hawaii who served in World War I. The War Memorial Natatorium is significant as a major social and recreational local landmark and for its association with the history of competitive swimming. Diamond Head Lighthouse

Address 3399 Diamond Head Road, Honolulu, HI 96816 TMK (1) 3-1-042:003 SHPD Historic Site Number 80-14-1338 National Register of Historic Places #80001282 Abstract The Diamond Head Lighthouse is a 57 foot white concrete pyramidal tower with a red roof. It sits seemingly on the side of a sharp cliff when viewed from seaward, and at night the light can be seen up to 18 miles by the mariner. The Lighthouse and accompanying buildings have not changed since 1917. Today, this station also serves as quarters for the commander of the 14th coast guard district. The Diamond Head Lighthouse was first established in 1899 to guide mariners into the then budding port of Honolulu and is significant for its association with the expanding port. Makapuu Point Lighthouse

Hawaiian Trail and Mountain Club Clubhouse

There is a modern caretakers residential unit on the first floor. The building, when constructed in 1926, was the only structure in this part of Waimanalo. Today it stands in the midst of a subdivision surrounded by modern houses. The Hawaiian Trail and Mountain Club Clubhouse is significant for its associations with the on-going activities of the Hawaiian Trail and Mountain Club. The club has made contributions to the broad patterns of Oahu's history as a pioneering organization to promote outdoor hiking activity and supporting the conservation of Hawaii's natural environment. Kawailoa Training School for Girls (Girls’ Industrial School)

Address 42-470 Kalanianaole Highway, Kailua, HI 96734 TMK (1) 4-2-006:002 SHPD Historic Site Number 80-11-1362 Abstract Built in 1929, Kawailoa Training School for Girls at Maunawili in Koolaupoko includes five major buildings sited on approximately 430 acres on the slopes of Olomana peak. All the buildings in the district are of one or two stories. They are designed in a Hawaiian style of architecture, and are distinguished by their prominent roofs. Of the five buildings, four are of masonry construction, while the former superintendant's cottage is of frame construction. Kawailoa Training School for Girls is significant for its architectural design and layout, and its association with the evolution of industrial schools in Hawaii. Architecturally the district is significant as an example of C. W. Dickey's translation of his emerging ideas on an appropriate and distinctive architecture for Hawaii into public buildings. The district is also significant for its pastoral setting on the slopes of Olomana, the prominent and dramatic geographical feature in Maunawili. Kaneohe Ranch Building

It features a cedar shingled, double-pitched hip roof with overhangs and exposed rafters, and an inset lanai. The building sits on a landscaped lot with an extensive lawn, palms, and lauhala trees. The Kaneohe Ranch Building historically is significant for its associations with Kaneohe Ranch, and architecturally as a good example of the Hawaiian style of architecture developed in the 1920s and 1930s. Waikane Store

Address 48-377 Kamehameha Highway, Kaneohe, HI 96744 TMK (1) 4-8-003:001 SHPD Historic Site Number 80-06-9815 Abstract The Waikane Store is a simple, one story, rectangular building with board and batten single wall stud construction and an asphalt shingle hip roof. The foundation is raised on post and pier but is slab on grade in the center. The building was originally a World War II structure, a large mess hall, moved by the Moriwaki family who has run the store from 1930 until present day. The original mess hall, built in 1942-43, was a simple rectangular building, but the Moriwaki's only took half of the building in 1949 and altered it to meet the needs of a store and residence. The Waikane Store is significant as a one of a handful of rural "mom-and-pop" stores that retains its integrity of setting. Also, the store owners still live within the same building as the store, a practice rarely found in the existing mom-and-pop stores of Hawaii. Architecturally, it is significant as an unusual representative of these types of stores and is representative of the ingenuity and perseverance of the family.
