Make a Gift to Support Excellence in Heritage Preservation

Historic Hawai‘i Foundation’s Preservation Honor Awards program originated with the objective of building greater public awareness of historic places and the impact of preservation achievements. In its inaugural year of 1975, the program started with one award, a Preservation Certificate to Nancy Bannick for her lifetime efforts. Presently in its 47th year, the program features five award categories and up to 35 awards in a year, indicating a dramatic increase in community involvement in preservation.

The Preservation Awards Program is possible due to generous monetary support from people like you. Please consider making a gift to show your appreciation for this program and the historic places that we wish to preserve for our keiki.

Make a gift using the secure online form below.  Consider celebrating this year’s award winners with a gift dedicated in their honor. Please provide the name of the honoree(s) and/or your congratulatory message in the space provided. Include their email/mailing address if you would like us to notify them of your gift.

Be a “Fan” at the Preservation Awards!

Fan Cutouts have been an innovative way of having an audience presence at televised sports events and other programs. Now you can be a virtual fan and “attend” the Preservation Award Virtual Ceremony with your own photo cutout!

Make a donation of $100 or more to HHF*, submit a photo of yourself (or a colleague or family member), and get a cutout that will be placed in an open seat at Hawai‘i Theatre during the Preservation Honor Awards Ceremony on May 21st. Your cutout will represent you as a member of the audience throughout the show!

Proceeds from the cutouts will support the Preservation Honor Awards program and Historic Hawai‘i Foundation’s mission of helping people save Hawai‘i’s historic places.

Sample of a Fan Cutout

The deadline to place your cutout order is May 11th (HST).  Please submit your donation at the link below, then email your photo to Awards@historichawaii.org, following the requirements and guidelines below. A staff member or representative of HHF will verify and format your photo to fit the cutout. We will contact you if your photo is unusable; be sure to provide accurate contact information. Once formatted, your cutout will then be professionally printed on foam core and placed in a Theatre seat for the Awards Ceremony show.  After the show, a date TBD will be announced to pick up the fan cutout from HHF’s office for those wishing to keep it as a memento.

Fan Photo Guidelines

Sending a pre-existing photo:
• Professional headshots are easy to submit and work well! Preferred file size is 2448px by 3264px at a 72 DPI. To check the file size, right click on the photo in your finder window for more information. Smaller files may appear blurry once enlarged.
• If your photo is with multiple people, make sure you crop them out. The center of the frame should be at the base of your neck.

How to take your photo:
• For best results, do not submit a selfie. Have someone else take your photo or set a timer on your camera. Stand 3-4 feet away from the camera.
• Position the camera at eye-level, frame yourself from the chest up.
• Take the photo in a vertical (portrait) format, and submit the photo in the largest possible file size (must be over 1MB). Preferred file size is 2448px by 3264px at a 72 DPI. To check the file size, right click on the photo in your finder window for more information.
• Choose a solid-colored wall for your photo’s background.
• Good lighting is a must! Try not to stand in front of a window or door when taking your photo.

Submitting your photo (REQUIRED):
• Identify your photo with your name/the person’s name. Send it to Awards@historichawaii.org. (Photos will be not used for any other purpose.)
• When submitting your donation online, enter the file name in the comment box so that we will be able to match your donation with your photo.
