PARKER RANCH, HAWAI‘I ISLAND – CELEBRATING 175 YEARS
Parker Ranch was established in 1847 by John Palmer Parker and is located in Waimea on Hawai‘i Island. The ranch covers approximately 130,000 acres making it one of the largest cattle ranches in the nation. The Parker family and more recently, Parker Ranch, Inc., proudly carry on the cattle ranching business and traditions such as rodeo competitions honoring the Paniolo heritage, helping form the roots of many communities throughout Waimea.
A favorite location for many community activities, the Ranch hosts events sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America, Cub Scouts, Paniolo Preservation Society, Rotary Club, and many more. The Ranch also is a proud sponsor for the Paniolo Hall of Fame which honors individuals for their contribution to the Paniolo heritage and for participating in the ranching industry.

Paniolo Heritage To Be Preserved Through Donation of Pukalani Stables, Parker Ranch (January 8, 2022).
IRWIN BLOCK (NIPPU JIJI BUILDING) – 125th ANNIVERSARY
Irwin Block (Nippu Jiji Building) in Honolulu is a two-story Romanesque Revival commercial building and one of a number of blue-stone buildings erected in Honolulu during the 1890s. The building design was contracted to the firm of C.B. Ripley with prominent architect C.W. Dickey involved in the design. The building is characterized by its excellent stonework, especially the high-relief work on the second story, three large round arches, corbeled cornice, and parapet.
Built as office space 125 years ago, this building housed the Japanese-language newspaper Nippu Jiji (later known as the Hawai‘i Times) from 1923 to 1984. Nippu Jiji was the oldest and largest Japanese-language newspaper in Hawai‘i and the U.S. prior to World War II and served as a critical source of local and international news and information in the Japanese American community.

LA PIETRA, WALTER DILLINGHAM RESIDENCE – CELEBRATING 100 YEARS
La Pietra, Walter Dillingham Residence in Honolulu, commissioned by Walter F. Dillingham and completed in 1922, is an extensive two-story “Italian Villa” overlooking Kapi‘olani Park in Honolulu. The design is similar to the “Villa La Pietra” that Walter and his wife Louise admired in Tuscany while on their honeymoon. Described as one of the most perfect examples of an Italian villa anywhere in the United States, the home was a social center for Honolulu’s wealthy and famous entertaining such prominent guests as Franklin D. Roosevelt, Walt Disney and many others. The site has been the home of La Pietra – Hawai‘i School for Girls since 1969.

ST. RITA CATHOLIC CHURCH COMMEMORATES ITS CENTENNIAL
After 100 years, the humble St. Rita Catholic Church remains as the heart of the Haiku, Maui community. The simple, yet beautiful church was built in 1922 in Haiku, a former sugar plantation district that converted to pineapple in 1921, by Sacred Hearts Father Jules Verhaeghe. It was established as an independent parish in 1950. St. Rita is down the street from Haiku Marketplace with Roots School and Haiku Elementary nearby and small neighborhoods sprinkled throughout. It has continued to serve as a wonderful place of gathering, worship, kindness, and hospitality for generations.
These anniversaries were commemorated at the 2022 Preservation Honor Awards Ceremony and Reception on October 20, 2022.
