Abstract
Approved for Criterion C (Architecture and Engineering).  The Swann Residence is significant on the local level under Criterion C, as a good example of a Spanish mission revival style house built in Honolulu during the late 1920s and early 1930s.  The style began in California during the late 19th century inspired by the 18th century Spanish Missions in California and the southwest.  The style is characterized by its minimal ornamentation, clay tile roofs, stucco walls and use of round arched openings.  The architect of the Swann house was Robert Miller.
