Address 9684 Gay Road, Waimea, Kauai 96796 TMK (4) 1-6-001-029 SHPD Historic Site Number 30-09-9313 National Register of Historic Places #84000203 Abstract This residence is a single-story, frame dwelling whose main house has a prominent, high-pitched, hipped roof. The main house is part of a complex of three individual structures connected by a roofed lanai. The three structures consist of the main house, the kitchen/dining building, and servant's quarters. Designed by Charles Gay himself, the residence is a good example of c. 1895 kamaaina residence. It is very similar to traditional Hawaiian architecture and eighteenth- to nineteenth-century Western architecture employed in warm climates. Address 2421 Kolo Road, Kilauea, Kauai 96754 TMK (4) 4-5-002:009 SHPD Historic Site Number 30-04-9394 National Register of Historic Places #93000774 Abstract The Kilauea Plantation House is a one-story, hipped-roof house built of stone. Although originally intended for the bookkeepers, it was initial occupied by an agriculturalist. The house is comprised of a living and dining room, three bedrooms, and a fourth bedroom/office. The original superstructure of the porte cochere was destroyed in the 1982 Hurricane Iwa. The Kilauea Plantation House is significant for its stone construction architecture and for its place in the Kilauea Sugar Plantation Company. This stone house is a relatively late example of the Craftsman style and shows its far-reaching popularity and its adaptability to different conditions, materials, and talents of available construction labor. Address 9567 Huakai Road, Waimea, Kauai 96796 TMK (4) 1-2-006:034 SHPD Historic Site Number 30-05-9314 National Register of Historic Places #78001027 Abstract The Gulick-Rowell House is a two-story structure with 24-inch cut limestone walls and porch on each of three sides of each story. The house also has attic, basement, and corrugated metal Hawaiian-style gable roof. The Gulick-Rowell House is one of the oldest, best preserved, and finest examples of early missionary housing on Kauai. Designed and built by the Reverend Peter Thomas Gulick, it is an excellent example of a New England approach to residential architecture adapted to Hawaiian climatic conditions and local materials.
