Address 45-8061 Kuhio Highway, Haena, Kauai 96746 TMK (4) 5-9-003:001, Lot 141 SHPD Historic Site Number N/A Abstract The Waimakua Homestead consists of three houses, a pool, and a cultivated, terraced garden in Hā‘ena. The property sits at the base of the Hā‘ena mountains near the Nā Pali coast and looks north over a wide beach and the Pacific Ocean. The Homestead is of local significance under Criterion B for Juliet Atwood Rice Wichman, whose contributions to Kaua‘i as a conservationist, horticulturalist, philanthropist, author, organizer, and volunteer spanned five decades. She was instrumental in the formation of the Kaua‘i Museum, founded and funded Limahuli Gardens, and perpetuated Hawaiian agriculture and culture knowledge through her research and writings. The homestead is also of local significance under Criterion C as a good example of a plantation style, multi-residence, family compound that exhibits Hawaiian architectural details such as single-wall construction, exterior lanais, and native basalt rock elements. The pool and garden are significant contributing elements. The garden was used by Mrs. Wichman for her cultivation and study of flora throughout her 40-year residence on the property. 4943 Weke Road/ A. S. Wilcox Beach House

Address 4943 Weke Road, Hanalei, Kauai 96714 TMK (4) 5-5-001:002, 018, 019, 020, 021 SHPD Historic Site Number 30-03-9371 National Register of Historic Places #93000725 Abstract This Folk Victorian house is a rambling single-story building, with numerous rooms connected by a roofed lanai.  There have been no major alterations or additions to this beach house complex. The A. S. Wilcox beach house is architecturally significant as a good, surviving example of a late nineteenth-/early twentieth-century house in Hawaii, and its association with Albert Spencer Wilcox. Its rambling design and separation of social, cooking, and sleeping functions into detached rooms connected by a lanai is typical of the period. Wailua Complex of Heiau

The Wailua Complex is one of the most important archeological site complexes in the Hawaiian Islands, with components spanning all phases of Hawaiian culture. Most of the heiau and sacred sites in the complex are associated with legends, rulers, and events that played an important role in Hawaiian culture and are of traditional significance to contemporary Hawaiians of native descent. Menehune Fishpond (Alekoko Fishpond)

Kikiaola (Menehune Ditch)

Address Menehune Rd., Waimea, Hawaii 96796 TMK N/A SHPD Historic Site Number 30-09-26 National Register of Historic Places #84000270 Abstract Kīkīaola is a historic irrigation ditch (‘auwai) said to have been built by Menehune, suggesting that it was built during the earliest period of Hawaiian settlement. Hawaiians built many stone-lined ‘auwai to irrigate ponds for growing taro, but very rarely used dressed stone to line the ditches. The finely cut basalt blocks that line sections of the outer wall of the Menehune Ditch make it quite exceptional. Kong Lung Store

Address 2484 Keneke Street (Lighthouse Road), Kilauea, Kauai 96754 TMK (4) 5-2-008:029 SHPD Historic Site Number 30-04-9394 National Register of Historic Places #93000776 Abstract The Kong Lung Store is a single-story Craftsman/bungalow-style structure of fieldstone up to the lower portion of the gable. It is the last of the stone structures built by the Kilauea Sugar Company and was constructed ca. 1941 to replace an older wooden frame building at the same site. The store is an example of how the masonry construction used for domestic architecture in Kilauea was adapted to a commercial building. It is also significant for its associations with the sugar plantation and the goods it provided for the plantation workers. Hanapepe Town Lot #18 (Pool Hall)

Address 3865 Hanapepe Road, Hanapepe, Kauai 96716 TMK (4) 1-9-004: 008 SHPD Historic Site Number 30-09-9389 National Register of Historic Places #93001033 Abstract The former Pool Hall at Hanapepe Town Lot #18 is a long building which sits on the main road of the once thriving town.  The building is a one story, single wall building constructed of vertical tongue and groove boards.  The front elevation has a false front and an awning roof over the side walk. Pool Hall is a surviving example of the vernacular wood commercial buildings constructed in Hawaii in the early twentieth century.  The building is also significant for its associations with the growth of the town of Hanapepe. Russian Fort Elizabeth

Address Russian Fort Elizabeth State Historical Park, Waimea, Kauai 96766 TMK (4) 1-7-005: 003 SHPD Historic Site Number 30-05-1000 National Historic Landmark National Register of Historic Places #66000299 Abstract This 17.5 acre land parcel is the site of Russian Fort Elizabeth, a large irregular octagon-shaped stone structure, that sits on the banks of the Waimea River. It is 300 to 450 feet in cross diameter and features 25-45 foot rock walls some of which are 20 feet high, with the stone foundations of a magazine, barracks, and other buildings still extant. The Fort is the most impressive reminder of attempts by the Russians to gain a position of influence in the Hawaiian Islands during the early 19th century. Yamase Building

Address 4493 Moana Road, Waimea, Kauai 96796 TMK (4) 1-6-007: 032 SHPD Historic Site Number 30-05-9318 National Register of Historic Places #96000398 Abstract The Yamase Building is a two-story, wood-frame, tongue-and-groove structure that was built in a curved form on a corner lot along the main thoroughfare of Waimea, a small town in West Kauai. It has a rectangular wood shingle gable roof with small hip ends that cantilevers at the corner at approximately 20 feet from the first floor supporting wall and also features gable end walls with wood louvered vents. The Yamase Building is significant as a very distinctive representative of commercial architecture in rural Hawaii built by an itinerant Japanese temple builder named Murukama. It is also significant for its association with the development of commerce in Waimea town and the success of immigrants in Hawaii.
