Hind Residence is a two-story, shiplap-sided house with a corrugated metal gable roof. It has a front porch which wraps around the right side of the house and also has a centered gabled dormer. The house is rectangular in plan with a kitchen wing off the rear. The house sits on a lot, which in the rear overlooks a large gorge and the foothills of the Kohala Mountains. The James M. Hind Residence is architecturally significant as a rare example of a turn-of-the-century prefabricated house built in Hawaii, as well as for its associations with the Hind family and the development of the sugar industry in North Kohala.
