A. Nanbu Hotel/ Holy’s Bakery

Address 54-3885 Akoni Pule Highway, Kapaau, Hawaii 967558 TMK (3) 5-4-005:022 (portion) SHPD Historic Site Number 10-02-7517 National Register of Historic Places #99001356 Abstract The former A. Nanbu Hotel is a turn-of-the-century Italianate structure sitting on the corner of the rural town of Kapaau. Typical of the Italianate commercial structures in Hawaii, this two-story, rectangular, single-wall, vertical board, post and beam structure features a heavy cornice at the top with decorative brackets. Other historic buildings on the property include the 1932 Holy's Bakery, a simple single-wall tongue-and-groove structure as well as a Japanese bath house. The A. Nanbu Hotel/Holy's Bakery is significant as one of a handful of historic buildings remaining in the Kapaau commercial area and as one of the few remaining rural hotels in the state. It is also significant as a rural, simplified example of Italianate architecture in Hawaii. This list of Hawaii’s historic properties is provided as a public service by Historic Hawaii Foundation. Waimea Elementary School

Address 65-1268 Kawaihae Road, Kamuela, Hawaii 96743 TMK (3) 6-5-007:003 SHPD Historic Site Number 10-06-7520 National Register of Historic Places #05000541 Abstract Historic Waimea Elementary School, Building N, is situated on the east end of the Hawaii Preparatory Academy Village Campus. Built in 1915, the building was originally situated where Waimea's Elementary and Intermediate schools are currently located. The building was relocated to its present location in 2002. The Waimea Elementary School, Building N is significant under Criterion A for its role in the development of public education in the rural Hawaii Island community of Waimea, and as a military hospital during World War II. It is also significant under Criterion C as one of the earliest intact examples of a plantation-style school building constructed in the early 1900s.
