Abstract
Approved for Criterion A (Historic Events and Patterns) and C (Architecture and Engineering). The three Hanalei Fish Houses were built on three adjacent lots by The Lihue Plantation Co. in 1945, immediately following the end of World War II. They were built at a time when Hanalei was transitioning from an agriculturally based community, growing rice and taro, to a more leisure resort population. The houses were built for their Managers and extended families to enjoy summer beach homes on Hanalei Bay.
