Abstract
Approved for Criterion A (Historic Events and Patterns) and Criterion C (Architecture and Engineering).  The Honoka’a Garage is associated with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad development patterns of Honoka’a and Hawaiian history in the area of commerce, as an important later nineteenth/early twentieth-century automotive servicing center for the local (sugar) plantation workers, ranchers, and independent farmers.   The Honoka’a Garage is a good example of vernacular commercial “plantation” style architecture – a wood commercial building constructed in Hawai’i which adapted well to a wide variety of commercial uses.
