Abstract
3157 Hayden Street qualifies for the State Register of Historic Places Criterion C. Under Criterion C, it embodies distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction. It is significant as an example of the Craftsman/Bungalow style embodying “Hawaiian Regional” influences. Its simple, yet distinctive construction includes techniques and designs associated with functional, climate sensitive Bungalows constructed in Hawaii during this time period. The Craftsman/Bungalow style emphasis on natural materials was well suited to Hawaii. Construction methods blended with the landscape and features such as low, overhanging eaves and double hung windows allowed natural cooling, providing comfort in Hawaii’s warm climate.
