Abstract
Kalanianaole Elementary and Intermediate School sits on the mauka side of Mamalahoa Highway along the Hamakua Coast. A large, open flat lawn fronts the main building with covered walkways connecting various buildings. The campus consists of three historic buildings and several non-contributing newer buildings. The main building is one of the largest and most distinctive architectural features of the plantation town of Papaikou. It displays the many phases of educational theory in the islands.
