Address 231 Leinani Dr, Wailuku, HI 96793 TMK (2) 3-4-002:015 SHPD Historic Site Number Not Yet Available Abstract The Robert Lee-Ah Yet Wong House was built in 1934 and is significant under Criterion A. Built for a physician and surgeon named Robert Lee, MD, it was then owned by two additional physician surgeons, Tojiro Tofukuji, MD followed by Ah Yet Wong, MD. All three physicians played important roles in the development of healthcare in Hawai‘i during the early to mid-twentieth century: one was an internee during World War II while their siblings or children included members of the 444nd Regimental Combat Team. The residence is also significant under Criterion C as a well-preserved example of a Minimal Traditional Style dwelling, prevalent during the Great Depression in the Sand Hills section of Wailuku. Its height of three stories, exterior finish of stucco, and differently detailed front, rear and side facades, asymmetrically massed with side facing and cross gables as well as shed roofs with dormers made it unique.

429 Front Street / Mary P. Bright House

Address 429 Front Street, Lahaina, Hawaii 96822 TMK (2) 4-6-002:004 SHPD Historic Site Number Not Yet Available Historic Designations: Hawai‘i Register of Historic Places Abstract Approved for Criterion A (Historical Events and Patterns) and Criterion C (Architecture and Engineering).  The Mary P. Bright House is a Contemporary Style/Mid-Century Modern residence and appears to be among the first examples of the style to be erected on Front Street during the post war period.  At the time of its construction in 1963, Front Street was still largely comprised of early twentieth century dwellings.  The house was built for Mary Bright and her husband James, a foreman at a local pineapple cannery.  It was part of a transition from rental housing provided by a plantation company to individual home ownership, and for modern style dwellings that were already being erected in Lahaina.  Mary Bright was a descendant of Hawai‘i’s ali‘i class and lived in the house until her death in 1987.

239 Front Street/ Lucy Kaiewe Searle House

Address 239 Front Street, Lahaina, Maui 96761 TMK (2) 4-6-003:002 SHPD Historic Site Number 50-03-9034 Abstract The Lucy Kaiewe Searle House sits on a terraced, oceanfront lot that steps down to a seven-foot-high stone seawall and the Pacific Ocean. The single-story, single-wall dwelling is rectangular in plan and features 6" tongue-and-groove walls. The Lucy Kaiewe Searle House is significant as a fine example of an early twentieth-century, large-scale, single-wall residence. The house is also significant for its associations with Pioneer Mill, the primary economic force in the Lahaina area during the late nineteenth and first half of the twentieth century. Kaluakini House is a Craftsman-inspired plantation-style residence located in the Lahaina National Historic Landmark District. The house is asymmetrically massed, one story in height, and four bays in width and four bays in length. The William K. Kaluakini House is significant for its association with William Kaluakini and the relative prosperity he achieved as a government official, a member of the Republican party and a member of the local elite. It is one of only two buildings in that portion of Front Street associated with the kamaaina families who lived along the arterial during the 1910s and 1920s. Construction was completed in early 1924, and the structure has a raised H-shape floor plan. The structure features a poured-concrete foundation which was a modern construction technique new to Maui during the early 1900s. The Lufkin Residence is significant for its association with the development of High Street. It is also significant for its associations with the prominent banking and business family of Charles and Frank Lufkin and as a representative of the upper echelons and the newly emerged merchant class in Wailuku during the period. Address 149 Cane Place, Paia, Maui 96779 TMK (2) 3-8-002:004 SHPD Historic Site Number 50-05-9055 Abstract The Asa Baldwin Residence was built in 1933 along the beach front in the Spreckelsville area. It is a single-story, wood-frame residence that has double-pitched hipped roof lines, overhanging eaves, and exposed rafter tails. The house has a modified U-shaped plan with a central courtyard and fountain and is surrounded by a broad expansive lawn. The Asa Baldwin Residence is significant as an intact example of a Mission/Spanish-revival style residence built in the 1930s and designed by locally renowned architect, Charles W. Dickey. With its broad double-pitched roof, overhanging eaves, and interior open timber ceiling, the house has the hallmark elements of the "Hawaiian" style of building design perpetuated by C. W. Baldwin Avenue/ Harry A. Baldwin House

Baldwin property, known as Kaluanui, is located on a gently rolling slope near the town of Makawao and consists of 17.76 acres. The main complex is within a semi-formal landscaped setting extensively planted with indigenous as well as exotic plants and trees. The home, designed by C. W. Dickey in 1916, is one of the few residential early California Mission-style buildings remaining in Hawaii. The Harry A. Baldwin property is an early successful attempt at integrating the building with the landscape, which was done through the use of interior and exterior gardens, terraces and loggias.

The home is architecturally significant as a good example of an early twentieth-century house rendered in the Dutch colonial style. The Frank Baldwin/H. F. Rice Residence is a work of master architect C. W. Dickey, who was the premier architect in Hawaii during the opening decades of the twentieth century.
